Raptors adding Bruno Fernando
Blake Murphy: The Raptors are signing Bruno Fernando, per a source. It’s a non-guaranteed deal. Basically, come in to camp and compete for a roster spot. Some guarantees would kick in if he makes the team. Not an Exhibit 10; he’s not 2-way eligible, no 905 implication.

Former Raptor Bruno Caboclo scores 33 points as Brazil beats Japan 102-84
Surviving the Japanese comeback in the second half, Brazil got the job done to keep hoping about making it to the next phase at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Brazil is currently -7 in points differential after getting today’s 102-84 win and will wait for the rest of the games in Gameday 3 to find out more about the future. France and Germany already qualified for the next round, but the South Americans can hope to be two of the best third-classified teams. Already dominating at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Bruno Caboclo was crucial for his team’s win, as the Brazilian center finished the game with a double-double of 33 points plus 17 rebounds. “When I am not in foul trouble, I know I can play like that and at least be a true factor on the defensive end”,said Caboclo after the game.

Tiago Splitter hopes to live days like this in the upcoming 2024-25 season on French soil, being named head coach of Paris Basketball to replace Tuomas Iisalo. But for now, he can celebrate with Brazil after getting the huge 18-point win (102-84) to keep hoping about making it to the Quarter-Finals of the Olympic Games. Stopping by at the mixed zone in the post-game, the Brazilian national team’s assistant coach spoke about today’s clash. “Coming to these Olympic games, we knew the first two games would have been very tough. We knew this game was very important for us. Getting to see the points, we needed to win this game by a lot to try to get to the Quarter-Finals”, he opened.

The team said Hachimura felt discomfort in his calf fallowing Japan’s 94-90 overtime loss to France on Tuesday. He received an MRI confirming an injury to his gastrocnemius muscle. He has since left the team. “As my injury required early treatment, I was unfortunately unable to accompany the team in accordance with NBA/FIBA rules,” Hachimura, who plays for theLos Angeles Lakers, said in a statement. “I would like to thank all the spectators who supported me at the venue, basketball fans around the world, and all the fans in Japan. I think that together with my teammates, we played a very good game for Japanese basketball. I am proud to have been able to play as a member of Akatsuki Japan.”

Puerto Rico, which qualified for Paris with an upset over Lithuania in a qualifying tournament last month, is 0-2 and has the worst point differential in the Olympics at minus-52. Team USA is favored by 33.5 points by ESPN BET as of Friday morning. “The point differential is a big thing, and so even the first two games we were focusing on not taking our foot off like you do in the NBA sometimes,” Team USA guardDerrick Whitesaid. “So it’s a little different than what we’re used to, but that’s all part of the tournament.”

Marcus Morris to sign with Sixers or Cavs
For Morris’ comfort level, the Sixers and Cavs appear to have the best chances to land him. After being bought out by the Spurs, Morris signed with Cleveland in March. He fit in nicely and was one of their best players in the postseason. The Sixers only have a one-year veteran-minimum salary of $3.3 million available to offer him. Sources say the Cavs, who are highly interested, are prepared to give Morris nearly double that amount. Despite that, Morris can still see himself coming back to the Sixers.

Having made more than $100 million in his career, the 34-year-old isn’t looking to break the bank. Nor does the North Philly native have a lot of demands. “I’m not trying to overdo anything,” Morris said Tuesday. “I know the game. I’ve been around 14 years. I’m still playing. I just want to come in and help a team, be a voice, be a vet, but still compete at a high level. “I also want to be somewhere I already know what the team needs. I want to be a piece that’s versatile and playing, starting or either coming off [the bench], and helping younger guys and things like that.”

Jalen Brunson just signed one. Head coach Tom Thibodeau followed. The newest big name to join the squad, Mikal Bridges, can add years to his contract in October. And there is one more person to mention … Julius Randle is eligible to sign an extension on Saturday. The new deal could pay him up to $181.5 million over as many as four years. But unlike with Brunson and Thibodeau, this situation is not so simple.
